His first fictional novel Cup of Gold was published in 1929 though it was his novel Tortilla Flat (1935) that gained Steinbeck his first critical success. One of the most heavily criticised winners of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Steinbeck has gone down in history as one of the most taught authors in both the United Kingdom and the United States. ![]()
